The present design is deliberately developed for older persons to enjoy card playing during pandemic – younger adults will stay at home for work and have more time to take care of their grandparents. Poker is printed on a fine smooth paper so that player could use less effort to shuffle. Sans-serif fonts are printed on upper left and lower right corners are being enlarged so that players could read clearly even if they are in low sensory abilities. It is the best design for players who enjoy playing Big Two, Chinese Poker and Matching Games with all family members with the oval wooden stand.

Unique Properties

Poker is printed on a fine and extra smooth paper so that player could use less effort to shuffle. The sans-serif fonts and graphics printed on upper left and lower right corners are being enlarged so that players could read them clearly even if they are in low sensory abilities.Creatively, the focus is now shifted to the amplified numbers, supported by graphical pattern. Simplified signature graphics could be more easily to recognize the cards they have - better encouragement to players.

Production Technology

The black border printed on the other side offers an enhanced visual impact of each card while playing. The wooden stand is made of solid beech and walnut to offer luxurious play experience which is new to the market. The organic shape of the wooden poker stand builds an emotional attachment with the players. Each player can fill in the slots they preferred with the cards on hand. The inclined design offers a sense of privacy so that players could still have a card shelter without exposing to others. Pokermate Deluxe is the best design for players who enjoy playing Big Two, Chinese Poker and Matching Games with all family members.

Design Challenge

We spent a lot of time to design and test out the best angle and profile for the wooden stand, and gone through plenty of production meetings with the manufacturers in China before actual production.

Research

We gather information through participative design workshop with local older people to learn more about their latent needs iteratively supported by community elderly centre. We notice that older people are less sensitive when they are holding objects such as smart phone, pen, chopsticks and playing cards etc. The wooden stand is made of solid beech and walnut to offer new experience to the market. The organic shape of the wooden poker stand builds an emotional attachment with the players. Each player can fill in the slots they preferred with the cards on hand. The inclined design offers a sense of privacy so that players could still have a card shelter without exposing to others.
