Production Technology
CORDURA fabrics - engineered with cutting-edge technologies to deliver best-in-class resistance to abrasion and tears. Lorenzi fabrics - leather-like fabrics that are waterproof and highly resistant Hypalon - high strength fabrics in the details providing an attachment of future accessories and modules. Fidlock - innovative magnetic locking hardware
Design Challenge
The first challenge was to find an intuitive and easy-to-use modular system. We researched the military field and came up with a solution based on innovative magnetic hooks. This system allows us to offer a product that is both technical and user-friendly. The second one was building a supply chain entirely based in Italy that would balance quality and price and we successfully achieved this by finding reliable suppliers. We managed to develop the project during all the lockdowns due to Covid-19
Project Duration
The project started in January 2020 and finished in March 2021 in Milan, Italy.
Operation Flow
Featuring Fidlock innovative magnetic locking hardware, you can effortlessly lock and unlock your backpack with one-hand management. The backpack has two compartments, three inner pockets, and one front pocket to quickly access your essentials. While the Milano Anchor provides modularity through the magnetic system that quickly and securely attaches modules to the pack.
Research
We did in-depth market research to identify all the pros and cons of both modular and non-modular backpacks on the market. We also did qualitative & quantitative research with questionnaires to a group of people from different cities of Europe (who belong to our target group) to understand the needs and what they would prefer in a daily backpack both from the point of view of functionality and design.
Inspiration
Like most people who live in the urban landscape, we spend our days living our lives at full speed. A backpack is our best companion in our dynamic life, where we carry everything we need to stay on the go. However, the variety of activities requires us to overfill them or carry multiple bags. That's how we came up with the idea of creating an ultra-versatile modular backpack, combining the functionality found in the best backpacks, with Italian aesthetics and carefully selected materials.
