This is a government project that combines Chinese Eastern aesthetics with ceramic speakers, reflecting the cultural heritage of Wuzhen, Zhejiang. It uses ceramic pigments to convey the artistic conception of Chinese culture by incorporating Chinese landscape elements. Reflecting the cultural characteristics of ancient architecture in Wuzhen, Zhejiang, the packaging of ceramic speakers uses recyclable materials and incorporates Braille to create cultural and creative products for the region.

Production Technology

Different from other traditional speakers that use precious metals as materials, the packaging of ceramic speakers pursues environmental protection, simplicity, and durability, and innovatively combines environmentally friendly materials with cultural values. Ceramic speakers are hand-fired at a high temperature of 1,300 degrees. It is worth mentioning that it not only incorporated textured musical note elements on the outside of the packaging, but also added a braille design and used embossed printing technology to allow more people to experience the charm of ceramic speakers.

Design Challenge

As a cultural and creative speaker starting from Wuzhen and moving towards the global tourism industry, the biggest challenge is to explore the differences of similar products, and combine the characteristics of Wuzhen's urban culture to find a way to integrate the field of Eastern painting art. The expression from classical to modern. Secondly, combining Chinese ceramics, there is a high probability of manual production failure, with a lot of color uncertainty, which also leads to each product being unique.

Project Duration

The project starts in March 2023 in Hangzhou, China and will be completed in December 2023.

Operation Flow

Combining Wuzhen architecture, cultural landscape and products will naturally arouse users' attention and emotional resonance. It can be associated with urban culture, built environment, art exhibitions, commemorative activities, and can play a role in dissemination and promotion. Presented as a work of art or collectible, the packaging material is degradable and environmentally friendly.

Research

This work is commissioned by the Jiaxing Municipal Government in China to create cultural innovation products for the regional tourism industry and play a positive role in promoting Jiaxing's culture. In order to achieve this goal, designers conducted on-site investigations and designed based on elements such as Jiangnan water towns and Wuzhen residential buildings, reinterpreting traditional Eastern elements through symbolic design techniques. A ceramic speaker with Wuzhen characteristics has been designed based on Chinese ceramic craftsmanship. Tourists can better understand the region through Jiaxing's classical music and images.

Inspiration

Wuzhen is one of the most representative water towns in the Jiangnan region of China, renowned for its unique natural scenery and rich historical and cultural heritage. The culture, art, and products of Wuzhen can be integrated with each other. This product draws inspiration from Eastern classical architecture and integrates modern graphic art. Taking this ancient oriental Jiangnan city as a starting point, it will influence the global tourism city market.
