Production Technology
The quintessential representation of Lingnan's traditional folk housing, usually built with a timber framework and brick infill, employing materials such as green bricks, stone columns, and stone slabs. Its exterior walls are embellished with patterns of flowers and birds. This deconstructed and reimagined design not only showcases the rich cultural tapestry of the region but also underscores the hotel's commitment to preserving and celebrating local heritage through contemporary interior design practices.
Design Challenge
The design challenge of this hotel revolves around seamlessly integrating the local area's abundant geographical features. To achieve this, a meticulous approach to material selection is crucial, prioritizing durable and corrosion-resistant materials that can withstand the environmental conditions while enhancing the overall aesthetic. Additionally, the design process involves distilling the essence of the myriad traditional cultures within Chaoshan, incorporating elements that resonate with the region's heritage while creating a contemporary and inviting atmosphere.
Project Duration
The project started in March of 2018 and finished in May of 2021, and was opened in 2023 in Shantou, Guangdong Province, China.
Operation Flow
The Shantou Marriott Hotel boasts 315 meticulously crafted modern guest rooms and suites, each inspired by the rich intangible cultural heritage of Chaozhou and Shantou. Since its opening, the hotel has consistently maintained high occupancy rates, with over 300 rooms frequently operating at full capacity. It ensures that guests find a harmonious and tranquil oasis amidst their travels, enveloping them in a state of delightful relaxation and rejuvenation.
Research
Walking into the hotel, you're greeted by a spacious and airy lobby adorned with sleek, contemporary decor. A remarkable artistic installation greets you, ingeniously deconstructed from the Chaoshan region. This feature reinterpreting the local traditional culture and artistic ambience through modern design techniques.
Inspiration
The Shantou Marriott Hotel, nestled in the vibrant coastal city, is situated at the confluence of three rivers and boasts captivating scenery of Shantou's inner harbor, surrounded by mountains. It is a prime example of modern luxury combined with thoughtful design elements that pay homage to the region's rich cultural heritage.
