Our consulate-to-villa transformation project is carried out using modern materials and production technologies. The project was strategically planned with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and highly insulated materials were preferred to increase energy efficiency. Comfort is increased with acoustically optimized panels in the interior. The detailing process was accelerated with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software, and the prototype stages were supported with 3D printing techniques. These methods ensure that the project is evaluated at the highest level in terms of both aesthetics and functionality.
The biggest challenge in this project was to provide modern comfort and functionality while preserving the authenticity of the historical building. From a historical and social perspective, it was necessary to take into account the cultural values of the building. Technically, the structural limitations of the existing structure and the incompatibility of the old materials were major obstacles. Additionally, complying with local laws and regulations and integrating modern technologies and access to information were also challenging.
The design process of the project started in January 2024 in Istanbul and in February 2024 in Istanbul. finished. The implementation process continues.
The consulate-to-villa conversion project involves transforming an old consulate building into a modern and comfortable villa. The interior of the old building is renovated, modern design elements are added and the exterior is tidied up. In this process, historical features are preserved, but the living space is adapted to modern needs. As a result, the building combines modern comfort, resulting in a perfect living space, both aesthetically and functionally.
Research Type: Design-focused transformation research. Research Objectives: To increase comfort and functionality while preserving historical values by transforming an old consulate building into a modern villa. Data Collection and Tools: Data obtained from previous projects, architectural plans, interior analysis, and user feedback were used. Additionally, computer-aided design (CAD) software and 3D modeling tools were used. Participants or Experiments: The project team consisted of architects, interior designers and engineers. Additionally, user surveys and focus group discussions were conducted. Results: The transformation presented a project in which historical features were preserved and transformed into modern living spaces. As a result, it was observed that the old building regained its function as a modern villa, both aesthetically and functionally. Insights and Impacts: The project demonstrated how historic buildings can be transformed to suit modern needs. It set an exemplary model for combining cultural heritage preservation and modern comfort in society. Impact of Research on Business, Society and Design: In the business world, it introduced innovative approaches to the reuse of old buildings.
