Production Technology

Its bold structure conveys a sense of gravity and presence, while its finely sculpted lines soften this assertion, revealing an underlying elegance. The form mirrors the poised stillness of a gazelle, capturing both its muscular endurance and its gentle, fluid movement. The chair is composed of two main elements. The realization of Ramesh required a fusion of advanced digital modeling, traditional woodworking, and precision upholstery craftsmanship. The frame should be constructed from high-quality hardwood, shape with CNC precision and refine by hand to maintain the organic flow of its contours. The leather elements are meticulously selected and should stitch to ensure longevity and luxurious comfort. The connection points are engineered for both visual harmony and durability, seamlessly integrating into the form without disrupting its purity.

Design Challenge

One of the greatest challenges in crafting Ramesh was achieving a structure that maintains its bold, heavy presence while expressing a sense of refined lightness. The seamless transition between the backrest, armrests, and rear legs required meticulous engineering, ensuring that the material thickness and curvature would support weight without compromising visual elegance. The integration of organic, sculptural form with strict ergonomic function demanded a balance between traditional craftsmanship and digital precision. Another challenge lay in ensuring that the chair's two main structural components, the front and rear sections, could be assembled in a way that maintains the illusion of continuity while also allowing for stability and flexibility in production. Through extensive prototyping, the final design achieves a sublime balance of form, function, and artistry.

Project Duration

The project was conceived in Philadelphia, USA and Tabriz, IRAN simultaneously, and developed over an extensive design phase, ensuring precision in materiality, craftsmanship, and ergonomic refinement for constructing phase.

Operation Flow

Designed for contemplation and comfort, Ramesh invites the user into a refined experience of sitting. The carefully sculpted seat cradles the body, while the upward-sweeping backrest subtly encourages proper posture. The arc-like transitions of the frame create a dynamic engagement between user and object, making the act of sitting feel intentional and elevated. The leather components add an element of tactile luxury, allowing the user to fully immerse themselves in the experience of the chair's Timeless form.

Research

The conceptual foundation of Ramesh was built upon the study of biomorphic forms, architectural movement, and high-end craftsmanship. Extensive research into animal biomechanics, particularly the motion and stance of gazelles, informed the chair's overall posture. Additionally, explorations into luxury automotive design, notably the aerodynamic curves of a 1990 Porsche's rear wheel arches, inspired the seamless flow of the chair's form. Materials research emphasized sustainability and longevity, ensuring that the wood and leather used in the chair not only enhance its aesthetic value but also align with ethical craftsmanship. The chair was developed with an understanding of how balance and elegance can coexist in furniture, borrowing principles from both classical and modernist design philosophies.

Inspiration

Inspired by the poised elegance and dynamic stillness of a gazelle, Ramesh is a statement of power, movement, and balance. The design captures the tension between fluidity and solidity, translating the graceful arcs of a gazelle's hind legs into a chair that embodies strength and sophistication. The chair's dual-component structure symbolizes the harmony of opposites, bold yet refined, structured yet flowing, assertive yet inviting. Wood flows into leather, blending nature, craft, and luxury.
