Unique Properties
Perfectly suited as a vacation escape, this property marries rustic charm with wabi-sabi aesthetics. Luxurious elements such as metal, titanium plating, stone, and mirrors are thoughtfully incorporated. Curves, with their soft, undulating lines, naturally evoke a sense of calm and continuity, offering a visual and tactile antidote to the sharp edges. From an empty shell, the house is reimagined into a dream home. The sunniest zone becomes the living room, thoughtfully combining the workspace and reading area while preserving uninterrupted views to the outdoors from the windows. Rather than overloading the space with storage, a “just the right amount” approach — neither too much nor too little — creates intentional empty areas, evoking a feeling of openness and spaciousness.

Design Challenge
While the public areas balance wabi-sabi and understated luxury, the guest bathroom is anchored by a grounding black palette. Chiseled marble sets the tone, while indirect lighting, LED strips, and spotlights create layered shadows and depth. A black mirrored ceiling diffuses the glow, bringing the beauty of the cosmos right into the home and immersing residents in a magical setting. In the master bathroom, tiles that feature vertical wave patterns mirror the flow of water. The surrounding walls are clad in gray tiles, striking the right balance of stillness and movement.
Project Duration
The project is finished in June 2025 in Taipei City, Taiwan.
Operation Flow
An open-plan design connects the living room, study room, and dining-kitchen area, inviting natural light deep into the space. Curved elements throughout the space soften sharp corners, introducing a sense of fluidity and a gentle, harmonious visual rhythm. Limited by floor height, the living room features a vaulted, curved ceiling, visually draws the eye upward, giving the impression of more vertical space. The surfaces are layered with hand-applied smoky brown paint, whose varying tones evoke a serene, starry-sky ambiance. Concealed at the junction of the living and dining ceilings, the air conditioner allows the lowered section to highlight the surrounding elevated ceiling, creating depth within the space. In the master bedroom, an overlapping sloped ceiling conceals structural beams while evoking the cozy atmosphere of an island retreat. Continuing the theme of understated luxury, a wall wrapped in deep red imported fabric features woven gradients that come alive with light and shadow, serving as a vivid focal point amid the earthy color scheme.
Research
By blending into the surrounding wall, the concealed door eliminates the visual clutter and ensures a smooth traffic flow. The master bedroom door is integrated seamlessly into the wall that houses the TV. At the entryway, the electrical box and guest bathroom door are clad in a mix of wood and painted finishes, eliminating awkward breaks while adding layered depth. Also, a recessed curve softens sharp angles. Wall lamps accentuate a sense of ceremony, creating a warm and inviting welcome as one returns home. Tailored to the owner’s preference for light meals, the dining-kitchen space features an open kitchen with a central island, seamlessly combining conviviality and practical functionality. In the master bedroom, a vanity is placed behind the freestanding headboard, with a sliding door leading into the dressing room. This arrangement creates a smooth traffic flow, providing ease and comfort in everyday life.
