The most unique feature in this design is that the project reflect Malaysian culture as well as Wolo brand value in a contemporary, creative and bold way. An enormous amount of thought, consideration, attention to details has gone into every aspect of the project. There are so much to be shared and one of them is Kuala Lumpur long and glorious history of pewter products. The hotel reception counter and entrance grand handle is handmade and finished with custom pewter.

Design Challenge

The hardest part of this design activity apart from its deadline is transforming Kuala Lumpur’s “DNA” into the project. For example, Kuala Lumpur has long mining history and hence topography layered pattern of mining field is incorporated into steel hence, corridor carpet, ceiling pendant light and the hotel room mirror. It is noteworthy that one of the key features of interior design is the “Kuala Lumpur Wall” displaying in lobby where Lumpur means “mud” in Malaysia national language and coupled with Kuala it means “muddy confluence”. The design and installation of the wall is certainly challenging and watching the result is fulfilling.

Project Duration

The project started in December 2018 and finished in october 2019 #the project is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Inspiration

As a Malaysian designer who is born and bred in Kuala Lumpur, this project is inspired by “Kuala Lumpur”. With the great enthusiasm to make WOLO hotel a true Malaysian brand, Kuala Lumpur’s “DNA” has been incorporated into the design in such a way that history, cultures and stories of Kuala Lumpur are reflected in many aspects in WOLO hotel.

Project Overview

Wolo Hotel has been a Iron winner in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design award category in the year 2019 organized by the prestigious A' Design Award & Competition. The Iron A' Design Award is awarded to good designs that meet the rigorous professional and industrial standards set by the A' Design Awards. This recognition is reserved for works that demonstrate a solid understanding of design principles and show creativity within their execution. Recipients of the Iron A' Design Award are acknowledged for their practical innovations and contributions to their respective fields, providing solutions that improve quality of life and foster positive change.
