Seasonal Packaging for Voila Dessert shop
This is a packaging design for special bonbon sized nuts candy only made for the Mouled occasion. The design concept is based on the shape of a wrapped bonbon adapted to the length of the tube. The designer simplified the Mouled traditional folklore festival to minimal iconic elements using clear geometric lines. He created the Doll, Knight, Horse, Evil Eye, and Dove with vivid color blocks. Using the same geometric style, he created the Mouled Bonbon bold typography bringing the concept together. This Mouled Bonbon is a modern take on an ancient conventional celebration.

Unique Properties
The design concept is based on integrating the Bonbon element with the traditional festive folklore icons celebrating the Mouled in a fun modern visual. Using striking vivid colors the design features the famous Mouled Doll, Knight, Horse, Evil Eye, and the peaceful Dove. All the elements designs form the shape of bonbons representing the product inside. The Mouled Bonbon typography is the cherry on top created with cool bold lines bringing the concept and theme together in a catchy way

Production Technology
These composite containers consist of a tube body made from 100% recycled paper, sealed with a tin plate base and lid covered with a plastic lid for protection after opening
Design Challenge
Mouled celebrations are dated back to the 11th century in Egypt. Celebrated by generations with the same traditional festivities, and the making of special candy, until it became folklore with an iconic theme. Designing a Mouled packaging design for a modern creative brand was the challenge. We simplified the rich folklore theme into main icons to create a minimal design with clear geometric lines and striking colors, communicating the traditional elements in a modern and young visual.
Project Duration
The project started in August 2022 in Cairo and finished in October 2022 in Cairo
Operation Flow
This is an easy open tube with a protective top cover that keeps the Mouled Bonbon nuts candy fresh & crisp. The design is wrapping the whole tube with colorful meaningful folklore icons. Each icon translates to nostalgic traditional memory or ritual of the celebration in the most minimal yet festive way.
Research
Qualitative and quantitative research. The objective was to know if people would resist a modern design for a conventional occasion. We conducted online survey on random sample of current customers and the shop nearby pedestrians. The Majority didn't like traditional Mouled designs, wanted more creative designs. They liked the design, colors, and typography and kept interacting with the tube translating the icons. The design would affect their purchase decision and they would choose modern design.
Inspiration
Mouled celebration is the main inspiration for this project. It is one of the most famous Islamic folklore festivals as it celebrates the birthday of the prophet. The day is filled with joyful festivals, colorful folklore ornaments, and special nuts candies are made only for this day for generations. The candies later became traditional gifts with the iconic doll and knight toys in the annual celebration
